The truth is, the nigerian health insurance scheme is not for everyone.
Like everything that was initially meant for the masses, the health scheme has fallen short from its noble end or set standard.
Nigeria is a country that is sick. When properly looked at it seems the power that be wants it that way. They want the nation to remain sick, so they can control it.
Thus the nigerian health insurance scheme was doomed to fail from the very start.
It is a system that has outrightly failed. No wonder the masses can hardly afford a bed rest even in government owned hospitals.
I dont know anyone who operates the nigerian health insurance scheme that has successfully used if for the purpose intended.
A lot of Nigerians are dependent on natural health remedies that are affordable and are within a poor man’s reach.
A lot of nigerians are jobless and can hardly afford a dollar a day which means they are financially incapable of providing their quota that is mandatory for the scheme to work in their favour.
Other Nigerians are simply just ignorant of the scheme. They are unaware of its very existence.
While for others it is simply about their conviction that “government schemes such as the Nigerian health insurance scheme will always fail just like the many before it that failed”.
To cut the long story short, the nigerian health scheme is a failure. It does not work, the intended value has never been rendered.
While i was in the university my school brought the scheme to her students. We all got enrolled, got our identification cards but we never had the priviledge of utilizing it.
My aunt is currently lying on an hospital bed for multiple health issues. And at each point of diagnosis, scanning, tests and drug preacription we spend way too much and when there is lack of cash, the doctors are suddenly no where to be found.
My opinion on the matter is that the government should give every Nigerian a job through which to make money.
Money that will help them pay their quota for the nigerian health insurance scheme to work for all involved.
