In a study involving rats, it was discovered that ginger was able to assist in weight loss while suppressing diabetes. The study showed that rats treated with gingerol and fed a high fat duet showed significantly decreased glucose level, body weight, leptin, insulin, amylase, lipase plasma and tissue lipids when compared to normal control. Suggesting that ginger supplementation suppresses obesity induced by a high fat diet.

A meta-analysis of 14 studies showed that supplementation with ginger significantly decreased body weight, waist-to-hip ratio, hip ratio, fasting glucose (SMD -0.68; 95% CI, -1.23, -0.05; P = 0.03) and insulin resistance index, while significantly increasing HDL-cholesterol. 3

How To Make Ginger Tea

Now that we know that ginger is good for weight loss. It is important that we talk about how to properly ingest it for the purpose of weight loss.

I chew ginger root for oral hygiene and that is where it ends. When it comes to weight loss and ginger. The best means of ingestion is through ginger tea.

I like preparing my own ginger tea at home because I don’t like the excess sweeteners added to the commercial ginger teas that I have tried.

1. All you need is the right quantity of ginger roots. Which is dependent on how many cups you want.

2. Secondly, wash the ginger to removes dirt’s and chemicals from the skin. Then grate the ginger roots without peeling off the akin.

3. Add the grated ginger to boiled water. Allow the mixture to seat on fire for some minutes. I allow mine to boil up to 10 minutes on low heat.

And that is just about it. I also allow the ginger tea to cool down before sieving the content. At that moment, its time to drink!
